Thanks, yeah your probably right that its only fit for a protective layer. I just really like how that case means i can throw my ipad in my bag or on a surface knowing it not going to get scratched up!
New smart case looks nice but is pretty much useless as a protective product! Maybe with some sort of layer on the back it would work nicely...

Apple's iPad 2 case would work better when paired with something like an Invisible Shield. I know what Apple was trying to do with the new case (make as little product as possible while charging more) but it is pretty much a failure in terms of protection. You can always hold off as other companies will be releasing their solutions soon. Either that or try modifying the iPad 1 case some way.

It fits just fine.
I have the new cover, which I LOVE by the way. I also have a "Built" netbook case that holds my Macbook Air (11 inch) perfectly and the iPad fits in the outside cover so it protects it. I have ordered a Geleskin (iskins are similar) to cover the back so if it scratches, it scratches the geleskin. I had an iSkin on my previous one because I didn't like having it in a bulky cover. When I sold it, the skin just peels right off and no scratches or residue. I'm sure there will also be clear covers (I prefer to see my pretty toy) that will offer protection available very soon, if they aren't now.
