How to shut off radio

This may be a stupid question - I notice that when I listen to a radio station on my Ipad, the sound stays on even if I turn off the Ipad. How do I shut off the sound - when I turn the Ipad back on and go back to the radio station all I say is a volume bar with a start and stop broadcast button - do I just hit the stop button and close down the Ipad again. I just don't want to lose extra power. Thx in advance

Yes, just hit the stop button. When an audio app is running and you hit the top button on the iPad, you are just turning the display off. The top button does nothing more than put the iPad into sleep mode anyway as you are NEVER actually turning it all the way off. So just hit the stop button and put the iPad to sleep. If you are really paranoid, you can always double-tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar, press and hold on the icons until they start to wiggle, and then push on the red circle icon located next to all of the app icons to fully close them.

is that why the battery seems to run down

Thanks for the answer - atually on the audio app there is no stop - just play and pause. So if I hit pause - is the Ipad still actually running and using up power even thogh the audio app isn't really running - just paused. Thanks in advance, What is the best way to conserve power

Pause is the same as hitting stop. As I said, you can always fully close the app if you are worried (I detailed the instructions in my previous post).

None that haven't already been covered. Let the iPad automatically decide the brightness level, turn on Airplane mode when you don't need wi-fi/3G/bluetooth, and fully close apps when you are done (especially ones that update in the background such as Mail). Even then you will likely only be adding 10-20 minutes (if that) to total battery usage with the iPad if you follow the last two steps.
