oh I probably should have said the message I get says "safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding" - no matter what site I am trying to bring up.

Well it's pretty difficult to diagnose your network problems from a distance. You say that Safari isn't working, but it really sounds like a network issue, not a Safari issue. Does your iPad work with other internet-dependent applications like e-mail, Twitter, Facebook?

Have you checked your network settings and compared them to your iPod Touch settings? Have you taken your iPad to another wifi hotspot to see if it works there?

I plan on taking it yo my sisterer's house to see f it works there, and no Faceook doesn't work either.

a friend suggested I unplug the modem and then plug it back in. altho, the modem light is green right now, I willl try it....I am on my mom's slow desktop pc at the moment

Just keep that solution in mind. Some routers, modems, and modem routers need to power cycle every once in a while. I have to do this to my Motorola broadband cable modem about twice over the last year. I also had to do it about once a month with my AirPort Express Base Station but Apple fixed that issue a while back and I haven't had to cycle its power for the last few years.
