I'm now on my third case, an OtterBox Defender, courtesy of a Black Friday sale. I was worried that it might be too bulky, having not seen one in person. It's really no worse than any of the others in bulkiness, though, and offers by far the best protection.
My first case was a Marware EcoVue, a professional-looking case that offers some protection. After the second drop, though, I decided the corners aren't protected enough. My iPad wasn't damaged, but that was due to its orientation when it fell. Had it fallen on a corner, I could see it wouldn't have been well protected. My next case was a ModulR, an interesting concept. The case is well made, and definitely would protect the iPad from the falls mine had taken, or worse. The modular system has a lot of promise, though not yet fulfilled. The headphone jack is so recessed that only Apple ear buds work unless you use an adapter. The top and bottom edges aren't super-protected with the cover off, but it's still good. The screen cover and stand are the most problematic, however. The ModulR cover is a very tight fit--you really have to pry it off. Prying it off eventually displaced the BodyGuardz film I have on the bottom and top edges of my iPad, though I don't think it would scratch the native finish. It's just a pain to get off. Once the cover is off, you just have to stow it somewhere; it doesn't snap onto the back of the case. When on, the structural ribs inside eventually wore a double wave-shaped pattern into my PowerSupport matte screen protector. (ModulR helpfully told me it shouldn't have, but I can't see how the design could avoid it. Buyer beware if you have no screen protector.) The metal stand is just irritating. Since it doesn't fold up for storage, it just rattles around in my backpack, taking up room. When on, if the iPad is on any type of slope (like a carseat), it slides off its attachment points. It does hold the iPad at a useful angle, but what are you going to do, carry it around with you to meetings? Finally, the stand works only in landscape mode. In a nutshell, I think the ModulR has promise, but seems over-priced and under-engineered. The Marware EcoVue is nice looking, but with little protection. Time will tell if the OtterBox Defender, midway between these two in price (on sale, at least), works out better. |

I have the keypad folio. While it was very nice at the beginning, I had a recent problem with it that has me concerned. The keyboard came loose from the case. I noticed that it had been glued in with what appeared to be very cheap glue. I have since velcroed in the keyboard so I can still use it but I will be switching to the iPad "clamcase." It appears to be much better designed.
I carry my iPad with me all the time. It does almost everything I need and without the size of a full blown laptop. It directly competes with the MacBook air in that regard (although less functionality, it is rare that I need a full blown laptop where I am going). |

I just got my Switcheasy Cara case, and it's just what I needed. A book-style case that wraps around all the edges of the iPad that will withstand everyday wear & tear, as well as a little bit more (not that I'm planning to play frisbee with my iPad)

I purchased an Ivyskin case in July and the battery pack never arrived yet I was charged full price (100.00 Yes thats one hundred dollars) for it the day I ordered it. They did not even ship the plain batteryless case until 2 months after they charged me. I have been patiently waiting for the battery for almost 6 months which costs an extra 40 dollars and they keep saying they are waiting for Apple to approve the battery.
I finally put the plain looking battery-less case on my ipad and the glass scratched the heck out of my ipad while sliding it in place, and to add insult to injury the rockers for the volume broke off on the first day. The glass does offer nice protection but is so glossy that it made watching movies uncomfortable on my eyes so I took the case off and now I am sitting here with a $100 useless Ivy skin case no battery-pack and a scratched ipad. The company told me that I could not return it because I opened the box and peeled the protective plastic off the glass. I said what if I had not opened the box and he said that I would still be charged with a huge restocking fee of 20% and that if they discovered that I opened it not only would I not get a refund but they could also not return it to me. Considering they charged me $100 dollars and didn't even get me the product without the battery-pack until 2 months after they charged me, I highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere, this company is very unprofessional.

First time poster, long time reader. Any-who, I've been using the GRIFFIN Elan Folio for iPad. All I can say is, CHEAP. it was $56 dollars, and so not worth it. It's day 4 and the edges are already beginning to rip from just slipping them into the provided tabs. I also noticed that the sewing around the screen is beginning to fray. What's even worse, I have yet to take my iPad or this case outside my house. I could only imagine how the case would look after just 1 day of real use (in and out of brief case, set up as stand to take notes, etc). I would not recommend the GRIFFIN Elan Folio for iPad.

My personal preference right now is the Zoogue case (google zoogue for their official site, I don't believe sell from retailers). It seems to offer more in terms of practicality than most other cases, and doesn't sacrifice anything such as being heavy or awkwardly shaped to do so... The velcro adjustable landscape is just too good really, I don't see why other companies haven't done it as well, so much better than 3/4 notches to select from.

I recently received my new drawcase (in the clear anodised silver colour) having already owned and not been satisfied with my Otterbox.
As a freelance journalist I travel a lot with my iPad, it is frequently being knocked around, dropped and crushed. Using my iPad as a work tool, makes it far more valuable to me and the content on it very important. So protecting my iPad is very important, yet it is so difficult to travel around without my things getting physically abused. This is where I hoped a solid and very tough case would be the answer, and after a fair bit of searching I discovered the drawcase by draw limited. Although I came across the original intended design, which looked really cool, the drawcase looked like a good option. Though a little pricey, I think it's worth it for the protection it offers, after all, my iPad is now worth so much more to me than what I originally paid for it. The full aluminium case is a little bit on the heavy side, but again, i think it's worth it. It's certainly reassuringly heavy too. It's a great design, simple, sleek. There is nothing to snag on, so getting it in and out of my bag frequently isn't any problem. The magnetic closure works well, though a little effort is required to get into it. But I think I have the knack of it now. There isn't much out there about it, ( i haven't found any reviews) and it seems a little exclusive. But I think this is a great product, and worth the mention on here! |
