Google releases Mapps app iOS (Finally!)

Sharing the good news, seems like the Google-native Maps app for iOS 6 is finally out:

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/goog...585027354?mt=8

Enjoy!

Hint: for those who were wondering, with iOS 6, Apple replaced the Maps app which used to feature Google Maps in previous iOS versions with Apple-native maps these "new" maps were in some (to many) cases incomplete and inaccurate or at least not as complete or accurate as the Google Maps ones.

Google has come with a solution!

Glad to have it back, but looking forward to an iPad-scaled version if that's on the horizon.

It'll probably be a while before Google releases an iPad version. It took them months to release an iPad version of YouTube (along with the iPhone 5/5G iPod touch), we may not see an iPad version of Google Maps until February/March 2013.

Google Maps is better on iOS over Android in some ways as Google has leaned more on a cleaner interface with less clutter. I'm also not having to deal with stupid ads on my iPhone 5 in Google Maps whereas I always had those on my Droid X. My biggest complaint thus far is that it doesn't have the ability to read my contacts. Right now I simply tell my iPhone to give me directions to someone's house. Up pops Apple Maps, the shortest/quickest route is chosen automatically, and the navigation option begins. I really wish Google Maps had an option where I can choose a contact to navigate to. It's a pain having to copy and paste an address into Google Maps instead of allowing me to select a contact from within the Google Maps app.

I actually haven't encountered any issues with Apple Maps so far. It continues to give me correct directions to places and its integration with Yelp makes it rather nice for finding someplace to eat (instead of relying on Google reviews, blah). I have both on my iPhone 5 and will continue to do so just in case Apple Maps ever fails me. At the moment though, I'll continue to rely on Apple Maps. I'm sure theres a bunch of people out there who hate Apple Maps and that is fine. I too wouldn't like an app if it continued to give me incorrect directions. I haven't had such experiences so I will continue to use it.

I love the new Google app, I especially like the traffic feature which includes traffic on streets, not just highways and freeways. The Apple app really twisted me around and insisted on sending me toward the ocean.

Weird. From what I read, it was on Apple as to why the Google app wasn't available sooner. I understand some people had no problem with Apple's version, but if Apple themselves apologized for such a poor job, then obviously something was off.

The new Google Maps app is available for the iPhone and fourth-generation iPod Touch devices that run the 5.1 version of Apple's iOS operating software.
