Whatever the app is need to paid or not, just if you need to use the app, pay it, like whatsapp.

Free apps usually include ads and are not full version, paid apps are with no ads and are full, so it's for everyone to decide what is better to pay and play unlimited version or for free but with ads.
As for me I play demos first and if I like the app I can pay money for it. |

Personally I do enjoy quite a few free apps, however, the paid apps tend to be less annoying and aren't spammed with ads all over the place

It depends on what type of App you are planning to release. Its best to release a “lite” version of your paid app for free. People increasingly prefer free, but free app only offer limited functionality and to make full use of the app you will be asked to purchase the full version. While in paid apps, the level of quality is usually much better than the free ones.

Sort of amused (and sort of saddened) that this thread has somehow continued to be regularly bumped for over 6 months now even though the one and only answer (neither is better because it depends...) was posted within days of the OP.
Exactly what sort of insight do people hope to add to the OP, when said poster hasn't visited the forums since August of 2012 ![]() Or, for that matter, what sort of general insight do people hope to add when there is NO general insight beyond the fact there is no general insight - the app store is a weird place where you have to do your homework because the up front price is rarely the whole story.

Especially considering the fact that there are some great free apps (Google Maps) and some rather craptacular ones, the same can be said for paid apps. There will never be a flat rule to follow with the App Store. Some of the best apps out there cost money yet others don't. Either way, there is no point to this thread so I am going to close it.
