32 GB Nano?

What are the chances of a 32 GB Nano?
In the market for a new iPod - sick of HD players and do not want to spend $400 on the touch

Eventually, yes. Are you asking if it'll happen soon? No one knows. iPod events are usually in September, so I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.

Given the recent capacity bump to the nano, it won't be anytime soon. This year, no way. Next year, almost no way. Year after, probably, if Microsoft ups the capacity again (which they probably will).

I rather have wi-fi built into the nano for podcasts then 32 gigs.

The evidence is that Apple wasn't even going to give us a 16GB nano last year, but Microsoft forced their hand. There won't be a 32GB nano before this fall, and only if competition again forces their hand.

Apple would much rather hold at 16GB for at least another year and make whatever upgrade comes this fall in the form of some software feature they will fail to offer to current nano users as per their usual M.O. That way, next fall's nanos will actually be cheaper to make than this years and still drum up new sales; it's the Apple way.

Past surveys indicate the vast majority of consumers can't even fill a 16GB nano, and, further, that most people with large music collections have more than even a 32GB nano would hold. It's an awkward capacity in the absence of applications to consume a lot of storage space. You can fit a half dozen full length movies, 100+ full albums, along with 48 hours of podcasts and audiobooks on the current 16GB - arguably in a bit of a mainstream consumer sweetspot for the forseeable future. There will be a 32GB nano eventually, but past Apple behavior, their obvious push to make the touch the flagship flash product, as well as, at least for now, a bit of diminishing returns on enticing upgrade sales, make it very unlikely before 2010 unless Microsoft decides to put out 32GB Zunes.

The short: if you want a 32GB nano, lobby Microsoft to make a 32GB Zune, they're more desperate to win new customers and might actually listen

Yes, you'll get your "nano"-like device, at 32 GB. I just doubt that option will be available this Fall. Solid state drives arn't going down in price fast enough to make a nano reasonable in price......
