Maybe it was a temporary glitch. I was able to do it a second ago without an error.

Try again to see if it works now.

Have you backed up your iTunes Library this week? If not, you are risking losing your music and playlists....

Tried again. Same error.

Maybe some kind souls will respond to the post I was able to make on another site: Help, please: Will Apple Music work the way I want it to? Smart Playlists, MP3Gain, integration | MacRumors Forums

You able to post here though.

Create your thread here and I'll move it to the iTunes forum.

Failed to create the post in this forum too, so I'm trying via reply to this thread:

I've been a long-time user of iTunes with over 43,000 tracks in my existing library. I would love to start using an Apple Music subscription and adding albums to my library instead of buying the albums individually. My hope is to integrate the new albums from Apple Music with my existing library.

I do most of my listening via smart playlists (randomized playlists combining my favourite rated tunes, with newly acquired music, with music I haven't listened to in a long time, etc. based on Code Monkey's approach) and would like to have the Apple Music albums that I add to my library integrated into that smart playlist approach as I do for the rest of my library, including ratings. Is anyone doing this successfully?

My hesitation to jump in and try the 3-month Apple Music trial is based on the stories I read on-line about people's libraries being corrupted, songs replaced with incorrect versions, tags being changed, etc. I'm seeking some experiences from the community on whether Apple Music is usable as I've described above, if I should wait it out for a few more months before trying Apple Music, or if I should just give up on trying to integrate.

My other issue is that my entire library is volume-levelled using MP3Gain. I'm assuming that I will have to "undo gain changes" for all my existing tunes and then apply Sound Check to get some level of volume consistency across my library and Apple Music. Does anyone have any experience with this scenario that might be helpful?

Thanks for reading and for your help.

Wow! If I post as you (move your post to a new thread) I get an error too.

Escalated to the Administrator.

Hi,

Not sure if you're still working on this or if you've forgotten... I tried to post again and still get the same error. Was I a bad boy? ;-)

Here's the new post I'm trying to make:

Title: Seeking experiences with Apple Music and "Will it work for me?"

Can anyone comment on this list of things that are holding me back:
- I have over 25,000 songs, which I understand means that I can't download for offline use on my iPod Touch until Apple increases this capacity limit
- I'm worried that iCloud Music Library will overwrite my tags
- I'm worried that iCloud Music Library will play the wrong versions of my songs when I download for offline use

I'm seeking some experiences from the community on whether Apple Music is usable as I've described above, if I should wait it out for a few more months before trying Apple Music, or if I should just give up on trying to integrate.

Thanks for reading and for your help.

I wish Jesse would respond. Last time we had something like this is took a couple of months to get his attention.

To answer some of the questions I would have to guess.
1. I have < 3000 Music tracks and 100s of those are a Bible Study so they don't get mixed in.
2. I refuse to use Apple Music
3. I still use Code Monkey's stuff too.

As for your questions:
- It looks like you can integrate Apple Music into your library.
- Once it is in your library, the Smart Play list method should work. My guess is that you would have to download the track for it to work properly. I think the Smart Playlists would only work for offline music.
- I don't see why the 25000 songs would affect anything. Unless you are using Match.
- I would expect that since iTunes Music compares tracks from your library that are in the cloud, the cloud based tracks will NOT have your tags. If you use the playlists, and listen to offline music, the tags would be safe. If you accidentally download the same track you already had, I would guess you would lose your tags.
- I expect that Apple will leave all of your music offline. Adding tracks you tell it to (maybe even recommended tracks) to your library. They have to handle the case where you discontinue the service. When you leave, all the offline tracks should be disabled. All your original tracks should remain. They had to have thought of this and would leave your library intact (possibly with encrypted inaccessible iTunes Music tracks mixed in, but you should be able to find them and remove them too) so you are able to get back to your music.

I have no experience, other than knowledge on Smart Playlists, and iTunes use.

There are plenty of posts of iTunes Music messing things up on the Apple Forums. Though how many of those are people that don't understand iTunes to begin with, is probably the biggest problem.

I personally think that spending $10/month to get more music, is not something I need to do. I don't care about recommendations from Apple, connections to the Artists, any of that stuff. Yep, maybe I'll spend more obtaining a few tracks a year, but I'll know they are tracks I want, and no one gets to bother me with recommendations. Besides I doubt I spend $120/year in music.

I think iTunes Music is going to become Cable TV. Cable started out as a place to get more channels without commercials. Since then the price increases, and ads have been inserted in. Try and get away from it and record shows you want. It is possible but difficult. What are artist contacts and Apple recommendations but ads for other music? What is it that Apple wants? Constant income. Millions paying $10-$15/month for decades. And when they leave the service, all that music they were listening to is gone, and will probably need to be re-purchased if they want to keep listening to it. They could get lucky and those tracks are not popular and drop the price a bit.

Hey guys, I did get the follow-up from cjmnews on this, but things have been extremely crazy as it's Apple launch season (I sort of miss the old days, when all I had to do was look after the forums )

There's definitely nothing wrong with urbanlegend's account that I can see, and I've gone through and done some database checks and maintenance and can't see any reason why this should be happening.

That said, I just tried to post the exact text of urbanlegend's message above, title and all, into one of our "test" forums, and I'm seeing basically the same error message, so I'm left to assume there's something in either the text or length of the message that the system doesn't like. I'm investigating further....

Okay, I've figured out what's causing the problem, although I don't have a solution yet.

The short answer is that vBulletin doesn't like the quotation marks in the post title. It seems to do perfectly fine if the entire title is in quotes, but as soon as there's a quotation mark somewhere in the middle, it errors out.

I'm looking for a fix, but in the meantime, making sure there are no quotes in the title should allow the post to work without any issues.

OK, I created the thread in iTunes + Related Mac/PC Applications. Then posted a question to the end to bring it to the top.

Now maybe someone will see it besides us.
