how do i play audio books at faster speed (NOT audible)

Although not audible, I figured this was the most appropriate topic.

I have many audio books in MP3 format.

There is a feature on ipod to play audio books "slow" "normal" or "fast"

I would assume this applies to the audible format only?

How can I play my MP3 audio books on my ipod at a faster speed?

Wll first off... I'd think you'd need to at the least activate the Bookmarking feature for Audiobooks before you worry about that.

To do this: Simply use the Convert to AAC (Make sure to use an appropite bitrate!), this will convert your File into a .M4a (Apple's Unprotected AAC Format). Now the trick (if you'd call it that!), is to locate the said File by either Searching for it. or locateing it in Windows Explorer (or Mac equivalent) and renameing the .M4a to .M4b <- AAC Bookmarkable Protected or 'M4b ' <- AAC Bookmarkable Unprotected. At the moment I think the latter can only be done by useing a Mac and an Applescript for iTunes.

In anycase it'll activate the Bookmarkable Feature for Audiobooks i.e. It'll remember where you left off last when your going though it. It might have more hidden features for those like you who have the 4G Model that posesses the Speed Function. However I only have a Two dead 1G's and 1 Brand new 3G that do not have that feature. So I can not comment on it.

It could be that this 'Speed Feature' is only for Audible's .aa Format in wich case you'd be just out of luck...

thanks, ill try that maybe tonight when i have time.

doesnt the ipod remember where your place was any time?

like if you pause it and then go back to it within 10-12 hours or so before it goes to deep sleep, if you wake it, it will just start playing any song or whatever where you left it off.

these bookmarks are better though?

no there is no 'Bookmarkable' features for anything but .M4b or Audible's .aa Formats AFAIK. I think I know what your on about though. The difference between turning the iPod off for a while and getting back to it, and Bookmarking. Is that as soon as you play another Mp3 the Audiobook you were last listening to will rewind back to the begining. Bookmarking will retain the Time Index till you get back to it even after listing to another Audiobook with the same .M4b extension.
