i was able to change audiobooks genre to audiobooks, but......

there is now a free audiobook sampling of the upcoming release of christopher paolini's eldest on itune. the link to download it is on the bottom right of your itune page.

i am not recommending this download either way, since i have not listen to it or plan to any time in the near future. i am writing because after i downloaded this title, extra options appeared on my genre list, namely audiobooks, which is what eldest was classified under. furthermore, the title eldest appeared in the audiobooks folder on my ipod.

thrilled and surprised that audiobooks is now a selectable option in the genre box, i changed the genre classification of all my audiobooks from books & spoken to audiobooks. i thought either apple came to their senses and released a patch via one of their updates or i found a backdoor around the less than ideal audiobooks setting.

that was where the thrill ended. although all of my audiobooks are now classified in the genre section as audiobooks, but except the eldest title freebie, none of them would appear in the audiobooks folder.

i am guessing that i still have to change the file names to make this a complete transformation, but still i am disappointed. does someone know more about this to let me know if i am on the right track? thanks. any help is truly appreciated.

sure do. widely discussed here. try search...probably audiobook and menu.

has nothing to do with genre tag, nor can the iPod distinguish mp3/aac files songs from audiobbok. the rest you should be able to find.

Hint: only m4b extension files show in audibooks main menu classification. m4b also required for skip in main menu shuffle and to play at other than normal speed.

If you don't want to go thru AAC conversion, suggest you use smart playlist to drive your shuffling songs.
