View Full Version : Displaying full ID3 information like bitrate?

I might (must?) be missing something, but my iPod (30 gig) cannot display the full set of the information. I'd love to be able to hit a key and see the following set of details for the currently playing track:

* Encoding method
* Genre
* Bitrate
* Composer
* Disc and track number
* EQ setting
* Play count
* Last played
* etc

I know you can display and edit the rating, but what about at least viewing these other data?

I dont think its something that can be done, but it really should be.

Hey pedant - Welcome to iPodlounge! :)

You can Browse by Genre and Composer, but you cannot display them for a particular song from the "Now Playing Screen".

Track number displays on the "Now Playing" screen currently. Look towards the upper left corner - you should see "1 of 12", or whatever the current track number and total tracks on the album actually is.

The other items in your list cannot be displayed on or from the "Now Playing" screen currently. Personally, I would like some way to display encoding method (now that it can be one of two different ones) and the bit rate. Not displayed on the screen constantly, as I think it would clutter things up, but accessible with a button (or button combination) press.

I agree about the clutter suggestion.

As for the number in the top right, I have moved from playing albums to playlists (for the variety), and thus I am playing track 21 of 7789 -- I might also like to be able to press some keys to see it is really track 3 of 14 on disc 2 of 4.

Maybe this thread should be move to the wishlists, since you have confirmed that the features don't exist.

Thanks,

pedant

Ah, I see. I'm pretty much a "play an album stright through" kind of guy, so I don't have that problem.

Okie-doke - I'll do it. Thanks!

I hope they'll add this functionality because I would like to know the bitrate, format, etc for a particular song. My Zen 2.0 can display certain info about a song and it's quite useful, at least to me.

Showing the bitrate would be useless to me, since I rip all my mp3's at the same rate anyway.

I can't believe the iPod doesn't show bitrate! Lots of other players do this.

This is very important to me - as I download files from www.shoutcast.com and other radio sites and for example if i'm playing a file and it sounds like crap I can look at the bitrate on the screen on my Rio Carbon player and say to myself "Oh, i downloaded a 128Kbps song, so no wonder it sounds like crap." Then i can remind myself to download a higher quality version later or whatever.

Hopefully this is something that iPodlinux.org will be able to do when the alpha is finished and workable releases start to arrive. How about in the cycle when pressing the middle button one of the cycles displays these instead of what playing ...
