What are the major differences between the MDR-EX51's and the more expensive MDR-EX71's?
Do the MDR-EX71's just sound better or something?
I'd like to know as many of the differences as I can before making any purchases.

This has been answered plenty of times, you should have done a search, but I'll answer it again..
The differences are more cosmetic than anything. The sound is the exact same. The same components, driver, parts, filter, etc are used in both. The isolation is also the same; same eartips, same shape, etc. The only differences are the aesthetic ones. The 71's come with a small cloth pouch, have a detachable extension cord (which many do not like because of the extra length) that is made to be used mainly for those with an in-line remote (such as Apple's), and the backing to the actual earphones are of a shiny chrome rather than a dull grey plastic.

Then hell...why don't people talk more about the MDR-EX51SLWs...?
I love the 51's....cost me less, fit the same, sound the same and the cord is the right length for headphones....(all compared to the 71's)

Do the EX51s have a slightly thicker cord? The cord for the EX71 is apparently too thin and it breaks too easily.
I'm not sure the cord is thicker then the 71's, as I've never seen them, but I have no complaints..

My ex71s with extension is too long and without the extension the cord is too short. With the long cord version ex51s, I don't need to the extension cord anymore. Let's cheers
