I am searching for the best set of earphones to use with my iPod Mini for the best sound I can get. I like to hear good deep bass and treble. I do have sensitive ears and like good sound. I noticed in one section some complaints about the Shure earphones sound so want to make sure which ones everyone likes best overall.

I have been reading through messages about the Shure E Series.
Which ones do you like the best for best sound? I have been looking at the E4 series and know I want the beige ones to match the iPod.

I am also interested in any other earphones that might be better.

If you have any advice I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, Sandy

Hello, I could make some recommendations if you gave me the most you would pay for the "best" sound. ;)

I have seen the price of $199.00 for the E4c's.

I just got my E4's from earphonesolutions... and they're lovely. They sound incredible, compared to my E2's.

I have not used any earphones but sony and the earphones that came with the mini iPod. Are the E4's enough better to justify compared to the E2's?

I am not only interested in price but sound at a decent price. Are there any others out there that are better than the E Shure earphone series? I know that is a bad question really, because it is hard to say with everyone having different sound likes. But I do like bass and some treble. I just was hoping to find a good overall sound with being able to hear things you can't hear with the mini iPod earphones.

I'm not sure if some of these earphones are in stores where I live to listen to. I've always only seen Sony, those in that catagory.

Thanks, Sandy

Hi,
I would just like to say thank you all for your advice.

I have placed my order for the Shure E4C earphones for a good price. I hope everything goes right and I like them. It sounds like they are good and what I want.

This site is a wonderful site for help. Sandy

Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. Well done on your new purchase. A wise choice I must say, as some people have been saying that the Shure E4c's can match the sound of the Shure E5c's which retail at around $350 - $500. Could you post some pictures and maybe a short review of them? Hope you like them! ;)

I just received an email that mine have been shipped. Should be here first of next week sometime.

How do you like your E4C's? Sandy

I'm not sure about the Shure products - haven't tried them. However, I forked out the dough for the Etymotic ER-4P's.

They are the absolute best in-ear earphones I have ever heard, bar none. However, you must be listening at a minimum Lossless-level of audio. Honestly, I don't know if you can hear the difference b/w 320 AAC and Lossless using cheaper earphones, but with these suckers, it's there (if you're anal like me).

The only thing I would say is that the bass response is a 'smudge' weak; almost too minimal to notice, but it's there (for the absolute purists who can commit to using the electronic bass EQ). But 98% of the time, it's not noticable and is more than made up for by the absolutely outstanding detail.

So I would only recommend these guys if you're using Lossless or WAV as the audio format - otherwise stick with something cheaper b/c you won't be benefitting from the extra money.

Hope this helps.

PS - I gave them to my Dad who NEVER listens to music through earphones - he's like "you are nuts for buying $300 earphones" - I let him listen to them; his response "wow". That's the best way to describe these babies.

Hey vibrax,
nice to see a change around here. I'm not really sure if I'll ever buy an etymotic earphone, only maybe if they bring out a dual-driver that look sturdier and didn't stick out as much. That'd be cool. :p Anyway... I've read that the Etymotic ER-4's can get pretty boring after a couple of months use since they don't have that kind of fun sound to them. It's just detail, detail, detail.

Anyway, sorry if it looks like I'm dissing them. I'm not. I was just saying what I've read on Head-Fi somewhere. ;)
