My 3G 15GB iPod suddenly stopped working with my PC. When plugged in (by firewire), it just charges and doesn't show the "Do not Disconnect" screen. The computer doesn't recognize it either. I've tried charging it fully, using a different firewire port, and using a different computer (albiet one without the iPod software). Does anyone know what's going on, and whether its my computer or my iPod?

i have the exact same problem so i cant give you an answer. Whats weird is mine stopped working like this , but my mates worked fine. So i sent mine back and got a shiny new one ( same generation ) and i have the exact same problem , And another friends iPod works perfectly well,
My guess is that my ipod hasn't been formatted but how im i meant to do that when my computer wont pick it up ??? ;(

Hi,
Same problem but using USB on a 4G 40Gb. Stop recognizing the Ipod on ITunes and on XP (SP2), just charges.
If I switch to Firewire works fine.
A Month ago I resolved re-installing iTunes, this time did not work.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks !

i don't know what causes this problem. and i don't know a permanent fix. I am having it happen with my 4g 20gig.
the quick fix i have used is to do a soft or hard restart.
soft restart:
press and hold menu button and select button until apple logo appears.
hard restart:
do the same thing while it is plugged into the outlet.
this has fixed temporarily, and then it will do it now and then down the road. but if it starts doing it all the time, i found i just had to re-install. Then it would start the cycle over again.
I have blamed it on problems that the ipod has with usb, but i don't know...
i would love to know more about this, or if anyone knows a more permanent fix.
