I have a HUGE problem. I recently turned on my iPod (3rd generation 20GB) as usual and a folder icon with an exclamation mark showed up on the screen and it just stays that way with no way of letting me into the main menu. On top of that the system folder "Device" is missing from my iPod (The one that contains the SysInfo file, etc...). I tried a restore using the 2.01 updater Trick but everything was still the same. Has anyone experienced this problem before and fixed it?? Would switching to Windows 2000/XP and using the CD that came with my iPod help restore properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my iPod is literally useless right now...

What versions of Windows are you running?

Windows 98SE
You can try a current updater under Windows 2000/XP. Also try scandisk on iPod - maybe hard disk got damaged? (hopefully not).
You can also try formatting iPod with Winamp wih iPod plugin (links for both on http://win98.drivers.w.interia.pl/ipod.html ).

I tried the Winamp plugin and it installed fine, but I can't seem to figure out how to actually run it, the documentation says to press Alt-L when you open Winamp to get it started, but nothing happens when I do that. As far as the Hard Disk being damaged, no, I doubt that, I thnk it's the fact that the folder "Device", which contains the important "Sysinfo", and "Preferences" files somehow got erased. I'm sure if I had those two files again my iPod would run. Could someone possibly copy those files from their iPod and mail them to me? They're in the iPod_Control\Device\ directory. They're very small files and should only take a few secs to upload. VegetaSSJ2@gmail.com
