Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I've connected my Photo Dock to my HiFi Amplifier and using the iPod controls get fantastic sound quality.

However what I really want now is to be able to select what's playing on the iPod using software on my PC - i.e. normal point, click and play but for the sound to be played via the iPod and not via Microsoft Media Player etc.

Is this possible?

While the iPod is connected to the PC you can only play it through the PC & not get sound coming through the iPod. Windows iPod don't have access to the iPod controls while connected to the PC w/o 3rd party software, i.e.:
-SharePod
-YamiPod
-PodPlayer
All go on the iPod HD. Others go on the PC HD & you can play the music from the iPod, like iPod Agent.

Links in my sig under 'freeware'.

Oh, that's not good news - I'm surprised no-one has released anything that allows you to control sound coming from the iPod using a Windows machine - presumably there's some technical reason for this. :(

Thanks for taking the time to reply anyway, as you say all those third-party programs allow you to access the iPod directly but the sound always comes from the PC and not the iPod.

I can't be the only one with an iPod dock connecting my iPod to a proper amplifier, maybe someone will someday soon find a way to allow the song selection to be controlled from a Windows machine. That's an application I'd certainly pay for.

The best you can do is connect it to the stereo and play it via the iPod.
