Hard Disk Use

I recently purchased a 30gb Ipod Photo. My friend has a Ipod Mini. He told me there is a way to get his songs into my itunes library without losing any of my current songs. The way he told me was the use "My Computer", access the Ipod as a removable disk, and use ipod contol to copy the songs. I tried this and the only options availible were "Notes, Calender, and Contacts"

Does anyone know how I can get his songs into my library?

-Where are the songs located on your iPod or his?
-Do you have any songs on your iPod?
-Open my computer>go to Tools>Options>View & check the box 'show hidden files & folders'
