Mine's got to be 'A Rush of Mugs to the Shops' by Coldplay. People actually went out and bought it in their thousands. Now that is really scary!

Ahh - the perfect thread to crow about one of my favorite bands, The Black Heart Procession.
These guys make it sound like everyday is Halloween. Former members of Three Mile Pilot, they're a San Diego based band (which is surprising, because their music doesn't sound ANYTHING like something inspired by sun and sand).
The music is eerie and spooky, without being novelty-like. Think Nick Cave meets Tom Waits in a Salem graveyard on a dark, autumn night.
They've put out 4 albums so far and the most recent "Tropico del Amore" is the most evolved of the 4 and IMO, their best outing. Their album titled "2" is probably the most creepy and eerie sounding.
Great to listen to on a fall evening, as dusk approaches and there's a chill in the air. Nurse with a glass of whiskey neat and a cigarette with the lights out - you'll be all set.

Tom Waits cd "Mule Variations" is not scary per-say it's more disturbing. Tracks like "what's he building in there?" Just some guy looking at this house saying over and over, "what's he building in there?" while you hear some weird noises and pounding.
Tom waits for no man
