Yesterday I bought a used 10GB Windows iPod loaded with some great tunes. My computer is a Mac G4 Titanium PowerBook running Mac OS X (10.2.6 Jaguar). I would like to BOTH transfer the existing songs from the iPod to my iTunes as well as convert the iPod from a Windows unit to a Mac one. The FAQ forum here was very helpful and answered my questions INDEPENDENTLY of each other, but I need to BOTH transfer existing songs on the iPod to my HD/iTunes AND convert it from a Windows iPod to Mac iPod. This would seem to pose the following dilemma:
1. In order for me to move my iTunes from the iPod, this forum says I need to use a Mac OS X program called XPod....however,
2. XPod is Mac software, so I need to convert my Windows iPod to a Mac one. This forum says I simply need to do a "Restore" from my iPod Update Software...which leads to this problem...
3. If I do "restore" instead of "update" when I do the conversion, it will wipe my iPod clean of all files?

Can someone PLEASE help me with this. I'm brand new to the iPod and this forum so be gentle with me! :-)
Thanks in advance for any expertise you can lend,
Sincerely,
Randy

welcome to ipodlounge, randy! :)

all your tunes are in some folders in the ipod control folder. just copy the folder from your ipod to the computer (to see it your comp has to have the "show hidden files" feature enabled). copy the mp3?s into your itunes folder, or wherever your music is stored. since they are tagged, itunes will recognise them (i don?t have itunes, so i?m assuming this). e voila! your music is on your computer. then it doesn?t matter if you restore your ipod. i?m assuming this ought to work since mac?s can read fat32 drives, unlike windoes that doesn?t recognise hfs+.

if it doesn?t, please accept my humble apology. :o

Sounds logical enough...I'll give it a go and let you know how it works out. Regardless, with less than 24 hours into the iPod I keep asking myself how I ever lived without one! It is amazing that so much functionality can be executed with so much simplicity.
Have a great day,
Randy

There are third-party utilities out there which will copy iPod files to your hard drive. I use PodMaster. I don't know how well PodMaster will work with a WiPod.
If you plug your iPod in to your computer, do the songs show up in iTunes?

i fu have any control over UNIX u can see all the files in the terminal and then copy them that way there is a application called coctail that will help u to see all hidden folders and this wy u can drag the songs you want over to your HD but still the best way to do it is to put your songs in with FW mode
