Problems with USB2?

I have a problem. I have owned my iPod photo 40gb for about 4months now. Everything has been great, up until today. For some reason when I connected my iPod to my laptop via USB2, my laptop didnt respond. All I got was my iPod had the 'charging' icon on the display which appears when you plug it into the mains socket. Normally once connected to my laptop the iPod has 'Do not disconnect' on the screen, and all is great. but not anymore. Wot makes this all abit confusing is, i havnt installed any new software or anything that could have altered my machine, it just stopped working. I know the USB port works because ive plugged my modem into the same port and my modem works fine. I know its not the cable because like I said the iPod charges itself. It just doesnt show up in windows as 'iPod' like it normally does so i can add music to it etc.

ive searched searched and searched but to no avail. This is pretty annoying. I was hoping someone here might have a fix for this?

I heard someone saying you should just buy a firewire cable. But to be honest, im kinda broke. And after just paying £300 for this thing I kinda expected it to last longer than 4months.

If anyone knows how to solve this PLEASE let me know....i would greatly appreciate it. And I know im not the only one.....

Ok so, a few hours later. I think ive solved it. and thought I would share it here, seen as nobody else seems to have posted a solution.

All I did was to reset my iPod. In case you dont know, you just hold the 'menu' button and the centre button together for about 6seconds or until the apple logo is displayed. Then would you beleive it, I plugged it in via USB2 and amazingly it worked again!!!! ....crazy!!

anyway, hope this helps some people.
