ipod not connecting

the last few times that i have gone to load new songs onto my ipod, my ipod has connected and said "do not disconnect" but has not connected to itunes. it has stayed on do not disconnect and sometimes has forzen up, and wont go to itunes. i have to remove it from the USB port and wait for it to switch itself off.

any ideas?

If it was connecting before without any problems then try restoring the iPod and see if that helps.
