So I've installed the newer IPod Update, and it tells me I have version 30.1 of IPod and that the IPod needs to be updated...but it dosen't give me the option to Update it. So is there something else I'm supposed to download and install?

No, there is nothing else to download. The iPod must need to be restored. Just make sure that the contents are copied before you do so because restore will delete the iPod contents.

make sure the contents are restored? I never even put anything on the IPod yet and it needs to be restored? wow...
