My brother's 20GB 4G iPod is giving major problems. Ever since I backed up some data from one of our laptops and DELETED the data, the iPod isn't able to connect properly to the computer. I've tried with both FireWire and USB cables, with no success.
What happens is that it freezes Explorer, I can't format the iPod, and when I try to run the iPod Software Updater to restore the iPod, it freezes it too. It still plays music perfectly, the trouble only starts when I connect it to a computer. I went into diagnostic mode and ran a HDD scan, it turned it fine.

Has this happened to anybody before? Is there a way to restore/format the iPod without connecting it to a computer?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Uninstall the software and reinstall it & put the iPod into disk mode:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 and then try and connect it to the updater and restore it.

Sorry about the other thread, my brother opened it on my account without knowing that I already opened one :\
Anyway, I tried what you recommended, and it didn't help :(
Any other ideas?
