Formatting ipod PLEASE HELP

I have just brought a 4G 20GB IPOD and when loading the software was asked to test to see if it needed formatting and i sed yes. it has taken 5 hours now. Surely this cannot be right????

the ipod is on and shows the battery correctly charged up, it also says do not disconnect and flashes a sign. theres also an image in the corner which keeps flashing. the program on the pc is still running as the progress bar keeps getting to then end and then starting agen.

any recommendations or help?????

try re-booting your pc and see what happens when u perform the format again. maybe your pc is stuck in 'loop-mode'.

yeh it seemed to keep going round in circles i pressed some buttons, took the ipod out then put it in agen and it worked agen
