i recently got a new PC and am having problems getting itunes to recognize my ipod mini. it was working fine on my old computer. The new pc will recognize it as a drive, so i can use it as a hard disk but itunes dosn't think it exists. it is also unrecognized when i try to update or restore it on the new computer, both of which i have done using the old pc. I really have no clue what else to try. Im using windows xp professional on both computers and the most up to date itunes and updater software. it dosn't seem to matter whether i use the firewire or USB cable. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Welcome. Did you install the disk that came with the iPod on the new PC? Try putting the iPod in disk mode and use the updater to restore (this will erase the HD):

thanks, but putting it into disk mode dosn't seem to help, it still stays on the "plug in an ipod to update it" screen on updater when the ipod is attached. since it works fine on another computer and will function as a hard disk on this one i assume the problem is something to do with software or security settings somehow blocking the ipod (i have no idea if that is possible). i've tried turning of firewalls and anti-virus software. could it be anything to do with the "new hardware found" settings? any more help, please?
