Reinstalled windows and forgot to back-up ipod

i had to reinstall windows xp home edition and like a ####### i forgot to backup itunes and ipod so now i have to reinstall itunes and reinstall my ipod to my comp again my only problem is that i dont want to format my ipod cause i got about 2000 songs on it and i dont want to lose any of them

is there anyway to backup my ipod or is there anyway to bypass the format or is there any type of program that back'sup my ipod
