Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. My birthday is coming up and I'm planning to get some new headphones. I'm looking to get a 'higher' quality pair because I've had bad luck with cheaper ones. I had the Sony MDRV250V Studio Monitor Series Headphones,

until the right cup just 'stopped' working, and as of now, I'm stuck with my iPod's crappy little ear buds.

So now I'm thinking of two different pairs. If anyone has either of these pairs of headphones, could you please tell me how they perform (sound quality, comfort, etc), and if you would recommend them. Thanks :)

Pair 1- Sony's MDRV600 Studio Monitor Series Headphones

I vote for: None of the above. What's your budget?

If you must stick to Sony, take a look at the MDR-V6. Bombproof, good for the money, as portable as the V500 and a lot better. Sub-$100.

i own these, my thoghts on them:

sony mdr v500: sound superb, BUT too quiet. dissapointing. also stupidly long coil flex

senheiser px100: superb sound, loud, no distortion, nearly as loud outside, though. folding

apple stock earbuds: they're white, er, sounds like mine have blown already. not much improvement with griffin earjams fitted.

sharp hp md33s: small pea like canal phones, sound superb, good isolation, three sizes of sleeves

ministry of sound ixos djoo4: amazing clear sound, waaaay to big & stupid looking for outdoors though

personally, i only use mainly my sharps or my senheisers (as above) they are mind blowing. also, you could do a lot worse by googling up ministry of sound headphones range, for a nightclub they do some wicked equipment that rival sony or senheiser dj headphones...

id vote none of the above too! at your price range (up to 150)you could get for sub $100: sennheiser hd 497 ($45) grado sr 60/80 ($70/$95), or alessandro ms1($100). If you move up to the $150 level you could get grado 125 ($150), shure e3c ($120), etymotic er6i ($100), audiotechnica a500 ($110), or sennheiser hd 580($150 refurb). personallyi would wait a month and move up to the $200 level and purchase the shure e4c, because supposedly they are better than the e5c($400)

I have Shure E2c's and they're great. You can find them for around 60 or so, if you want to save some cash. If not, the E3c's as mentioned are great also.

I'd get the Sennheiser HD 497's. However, they do leak sound to other people around you, yet you are still pretty much oblivious to outside sound.
