I just got an IPod today, and have version 2.0.2 on it already.

You guys will all hate me, but i have Windows98:SE still (i'm thinking about getting new OS, but only if aboslutly necessary).

1) Do i need to download the updater which is 2.0.1??

2) If not how do i get it to work.
Steps i have taken:
- Downloaded fireware patch for windowsSE
- reinstalled firewire drivers
- have registered version of music match
- when plug in Ipod i get Do NOt Disconnect, just sitting there with now musicmatch loading and computer thinking forever...

??? Thanks for any thoughts...

You have to follow the steps outlined in this post (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6581).

Mainly because the iPod setup process involved restoring the iPod to convert it to a WiPod. Since you can't install the Apple CD you won't be able to format it.

So, yes, you'll need to download and install the 2.0.1 updater. Don't worry, there's no difference between the two in terms of functionality. 2.0.2 is used to help set the default contrast at the factory.

I have a similar problem. My new 40GB iPod was fine while charging, but when I reformatted it for Windows and connected it to power to re-flash the firmware, it reverted back to 2.0.1 and the contrast was VERY dark.

After a few phone calls to support and a visit to the Apple Store, it was determined that all I could do was send it in to have the 2.0.2 firmware re-installed.

But when I get it back and have to format it for Windoze I would think history will repeat. So now I am thinking I may just have to live with it like this until 2.0.2 is released... If I crank the contrast all the way to "0" it is legible.

Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards not sending it in....

Thanks!

Never seen this problem before...sorry. Wait until Thursday..maybe a new firmware will be released w/iTunes. Kinda doubt it, but possibly.

i got my ipod 40gb last week and i installed the apple software from cd under windows xp pro. when it asked to configure my new ipod i clicked the yes button and it formatted my ipods harddisk but the firmware is still 2.0.2

don't download and install the firmware from the apple site cause that is 2.0.1

max.

I'm already stuck with 2.0.1 unless I send it in for a re-flash.

One other thing that is weird: My iPod collection is about 14GB or so (which was my reason for upgrading from the 15GB to the 40GB), but when I check my settings, it shows:

Songs: 3315
Capacity: 37.1GB
Available: 31.5GB
Version 2.0.1

I would think my available capacity would be about 14GB less than maximum. My bitrate on all songs is 128 kbps (except 4 songs which are 192 kbps) Very strange...

Otherwise, my iPod is performing flawlessly...
