Anyone know of a good cradle that can handle either a 20gb 4G or mini iPod? I've got a 20 and Chris has a mini. I'd like to get a cradle that does a nice job of holding either one of them interchangeably. That is, without a lot of fiddling around.

It's likely both units (the mini and the 20) will be silicone skin cases so something that fits only to a bare iPod probably isn't ideal.

This will be mounted on a Pro-Fit dash bracket. So I'll need something that can be flush-mounted onto the bracket. I'm willing to handle 'adapting' it to work. The audio's coming directly into the head unit via either an ipod2car or other unit.

Will the Bracketron Freeway PDA case hold the mini?

Suggestions?

just use the 4g dock. The mini will fit in there fine. It won't be snug, but It'll fit and the electrical connection will work...

No, I'm not asking about a dock. I've got both a dockstation (usb/firewire) and a regular dock so I'm familiar with them. What I'm asking here is about a *cradle* type unit for the car. I'd like to find one that does good 'double duty' for both a regular iPod and a mini.

That's an entirely different thing from a dock. Granted, some cradles have a dock connection on them. If there's a good universal one that handles both then great, otherwise I'm prepared to use the usual sort of dock cord.

ooh, ok, I see what you're saying...

The Dension IceLink cradle may work on the same principal (it has a dock connector on the bottom). I've got a friend with an iPod mini, and I'll check and see how well it works next time I see her...

Yes, thanks!

The car in question is a 96 Cabrio and that year head unit doesn't interface well. I'll probably replace it with a newer factory head unit to avoid something fancier tempting thieves into cutting the top! The top's over a grand to replace so there's little point in taking that risk. (sure, faceplates are removable but only when you remember....)

There's a vw icelink kit that should work but I'm open to alternatives. That and I need a cradle for another car that will use an FM transmitter.

someone makes an FM transmitter cradle. I think it's called transpod??

Also, you don't need to but the complete icelink kit. you can hack a belkin autokit to make it work without one. Search the forums, someone has already done it, and I'm about to do it (possibly tonight)
