I disconnect the Ipod and then later plug back in I get the dreaded "unable to read the format of the ipod plugged in" message. The only way I can add more songs is to Restore the Ipod, start from scratch and reinstall the Ipod manager.
I now use MC 9.1 per Adams (the Oracle of Ipod) advice and I saw where he had suggested uninstalling Ipod manager and updater after getting things working cause it may cause connection problems so I tried that but when I reconnected the Ipod after its initial willingness to work it was not recognized by MC. My Computer listed it as the I drive but said it was inaccesible. Whassup with this?

Hm....are you using USB or firewire.

Let's try a little test.

1. Connect the iPod
2. Copy a bunch of mp3s (like 100 or so) to the root of the iPod drive using My Computer. You can put them into a temporary folder if you'd like. It's your call.

See how that goes. This will test your connection to the iPod. I've seen in certain situations w/USB where the iPod loses connections. This may or may not be a problem w/the USB. It can also be a bad iPod. Seen that before.

Anyway, try this little test and see how things go.

And keep iPod Manager off of the PC. You can keep the Updater on the PC. I recommend that in case you need to do a restore at some point in the future, and it doesn't interfere w/the iPod's connection at all.

I can put songs on it after a fresh restore and reinstall of the Ipod manger software. Then I disconnect and go off to work. When I come home and reconnect the Ipod I get the "don't recognize the ipod" message mentioned above and then the only way I can add more songs is to do a fresh restore, etc.
I use firewire by the way and my OS is Windows XP.
Thanks Adam

Weird, weird, weird. In almost 2 years here I've never heard of this.

Can you try it w/o iPod Manager installed?

Have to go outta town on business til wed. When i come back I will pick up this thread. In the meantime, I did manage to load about 8 GB worth of tunage for the road!! :)
Couldn't get it to recognize the playlist I made in MC9 tho... :(
