After reading the review on the Roadtrip I figured I'd try it out since it is only $14.99. I received it yesterday and so far I have been so impressed with the clarity and sound that I doubt I will be using our iTrip in the car any longer. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Nice! I checked the site the day the review posted and this was NOT up. They told me to "check back in a week or two."

I bought it from http://eshop.macsales.com/ and I didn't get the Plus because I wanted to be able to use my Shuffle with it as well.

I have the RoadTrip+. It's really good. I just wish the cable was longer.

um, word and all, but do you feel like you get equivalent audio/broadcast performance?

Here in LA, iTrip is pretty much useless. Plus requires the annoyance of loading (and avoiding in shuffle mode) the iTrip tuning files. Forthcoming iTrip LCD should take care of that, but still drains battery (v RoadTrip+, which charges), seems to have a weaker signal, and runs through the headphone jack vs. line out.

Honestly, aesthetics seems to be the only place where iTrip holds an advantage.

rogermexico: Have you visited the site for the comparison test? It is somewhat apparent that the Roadtrip + is better sounding than the iTrip, especially since it seems to matter less where it is in relation to the rx antenna. I will probably pick one of these up when I finally get my iPod Photo...

Haven't listened to the comparison test, but I've done my own here in LA. Roadtrip+ works better, with much less fuss.

I've posted about this thing enough now that people may start to wonder if NewerTech is paying me. It's not perfect (gets a little static-y by the airport), but leagues better for me, in LA than anything else available as of today.

With all the accessories available for the iPod.... Which ones work best? I realize some people live in rural areas where the might be just a few radio stations and the terrain may be flat, but all in all which would work best in the typical city environment? Monster ICar seems like a very good idea. It allows you to tune your radio to ANY frequency. I hear ITrip does not work well.... Airplay looks cool but does it work? Belkin?

On a second note.... does anyone have or know of the RF remotes? I ride motorcycles and it would be real handy to have a remote that is not infrared or wired...

With the RoadTrip+ does the iPod turn off when you turn the car switch off? Or must you turn the iPod off manually?

My cig. lighter power is cut off when the switch is off, so I was wondering if the iPod shut down also.

Nope. Your ipod will keep playing on battery power until you put it to sleep.

Whatever,

Within one hour of emailing, I was able to RMA my roadtrip to Macsales. After about a day, newer technologies got in touch with me and let me know the new version (without the buzz, my cable wouldn't charge correctly anyhow) was available to ship from macsales.

That is excellent service in my mind.

Jetweed, it sounds like I am having the same problem you did. I just just got my new Roadtrip!+ in the mail yesterday, and there is a faint background buzzing/static noise that is annoying as hell. Can you tell me exactly what you did to have newer tech fix it? I just emailed mac sales although they haven’t gotten back to me yet. Thanks!

Well, the real problem I think is that if you move the cable around before there would be a chance of interference. This would even happen without the cable moving (i.e. Ipod is just there and you're driving). The battery charger might have something to do with it.
So in reality, if you don't see this you probably have a great unit. Mine just wouldn't charge for some reason (short in the cable perhaps).

I think there is still going to be some marginal interference, depending on the closeness of radio stations. Try seeing if there is an 87.9 or 88.1 or something in that range. It might change based on location.

It's still an awesome product. Couldn't live without it.

I did an invisible install (pics to come in the sticky) of the roadtrip and tested it today with a friend's iPod and WOW I was amazed, the quality of sound is outstanding and it works so well. I cant wait to get my iPod monday! Keep your eyes pealed for my pics then too!
