Do the new iPods only support USB 2.0 and not older version USB 1.0?

Officially they only support 2.0, but they work fine w/USB1. Just very slowly. I also wouldn't want the iPod's hard drive spinning and connected t the pc for that long. Too much heat build up.
For $20 you can get a great firewire card and you're in business.

Well USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 1.1 so I don't think that should be a problem although you'll notice significant differences in transfer speeds.

you can use USB 2.0 but you need to buy a USB/Firewire Cable in order to be able to charge your iPod

i use my ipod with usb1.1, it seems to be faster transfering using itunes rather than musicmatch. it is a little slow, but hey my life isn't that exciting so i've a bit of time on my hands. i transfer over ten/fifteen albumns at a time it takes may 5-10 minutes. if your transfering 10gig or something at once i'm sure it would become tedious. don't let the fact that u have usb1.1 put u off
USB 1.1 isn't THAT slow...
First time is slow, but after that when you do small updates, a couple of albums each time...it doesn't take very long time.
