Has anyone successfully installed an iPod in a Suburu Impreza?

You can get a tape adapter if you have a tape deck - i have heard of no hard wired adapters for a suburu.:(

I used to just have the casette adapter in my Subaru Outback SUS, as Gavin mentioned. But until this last week, I had looked into the Alpine IPOD adapter and how it worked. I now have the Alpine 9853 with the Alpine adapter, having my IPOD in my armrest, inbetween the seats (neat place to have it, I think). It will take awhile to get used to, but it works and sounds amazing. It looks awesome also when driving at night.
Alpine HU + Ipod adapter is a great way to go.

Are you saying that you put an Alpine HU in an Outback and took out the factory unit?

Cool. I'm wondering if you have a different Outback to me. I have the 2003 wagon and the OEM unit (a Clarion i think) is 2 DIN units high (CD and Tape) and seems pretty well integrated with the centre dash - I can't see how it could be changed over. Do you have a gap above or below your Alpine?
Check the ICE section out at
bbs . scoobynet . co . uk
(Without the spaces around the 'dots') for lots of options regarding fitting head units in Subarus. It's a UK site, however much of the information should still be valid.

My dealer said that Clarion will have an iPod solution with the 2006 models. He thought there was a possibility of a retrofit on the 05s.

It was quite the challenge, believe me. I have the exact thing you do. The stock HU is bulky, whereas the aftermarket Alpine HU is, of course, just a single DIN. Before the got it installed, I had the 2 DIN unit and then a little pocket slip under. After the install, I have a slot, then the deck, then another slot. I was unsure wheather it was going to look bad. all in all, it doesnt. sweeter quality music with a good looking HU.
edit - basically, we just had the store buy an extra single DIN pocket, in order for it to fit perfectly.
Will post new pics if wanted/needed.

Here are two pics of my stock HU (Australian model - Outback 2.5 Limited):

Putting an extra pocket above it is not a bad idea. How did you get the original unit out? Does the faux wood fascia come off?

hmm...oh yeah, thats basically what I have. tomorrow/Monday I will send you some pics of the before/after. To tell you now, I just had my local A/V store look up and help me find what particular pocket I needed exactly. It would be MUCH easier for you to just buy everything on your own, but then have them or an expert install it, also buying the extra pocket that you'll need.
