OK, here's what I want my Smart Playlist (SPL) to do each time I AutoFill:

Scan my library and select the songs I haven't heard recently, so that it "really" shuffles my music each time I AutoFill.

Now, the Shuffle doesn't have an internal clock, so it can't use the "most/least RECENTLY played" criterion in a SPL. Right?

So, in my SPL I select the "most/least OFTEN played" criterion.

But how does iTunes determine what was "most/least OFTEN played?"

If, while shuffling, I hit a song I don't want to hear and skip it, was it "played?"

Or does the shuffle mark it as "played" when I skip the song after the point at which a backskip would take me to the beginning of the current song, rather than to the previous song?

Or does the Shuffle mark it as "played" only if I played the song to the end?

I also created a SPL to select songs I've NEVER played, but it selected songs I KNOW I've played.

A song is only counted as "played" if you play the end of it. That means that a song isn't counted if you skip it after listening to the first part of it. It also means that a song *is* counted if you fast forward to the end of the song and only listen to the last few seconds of it
