View Full Version : aux in volume problems?

I have a quick question about using the RCA aux input on the back of a headunit to connect an ipod. I read somewhere, on some odd forum, and I've only read about this happening once, but someone connected his ipod exactly that way, through the RCA line in jacks, and it worked and all, but for some reason it bypassed the volume control on his head unit. The unit was a Pioneer if that matters. This concerned him, as it would anyone, since the ipod turned all the way up was not loud at all. I was just wondering if this actually is a problem or if this was an isolated deal. Like I said, I've read forums all over trying to see if anyone else has had this problem, and have not come across it. It's something I figure would have a lot of people griping about, but the case seems to be that you connect through the line in, and all works perfectly, volume on head unit works as normal. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this happening. Thanks

It sounds like he didn't have it plugged it properly. You have to be sure those RCA jacks are a true AUX in and not and AMP out. Some people just assume the jacks are AUX in when they may not be.

i had a pioneer deck with an AUX adapter. I used the nyko RCA stereo link cables and never had any problem. the best sound.

i have the same problem as was described in this thread, i have my ipod connected via the headphone jack to the aux in w/ rca cables to my pioneer deh-p5200. The HU has no control over the volume of my ipod, it is fully controlled by the ipod. That is my first problem, the second is the volume is not loud enough. I mean you can hear it fine but it is no where near as loud as the regular radio, even turned all the way up. I was wondering if anyone has solved this problem. I would think that if I had connected to the amp slots there would be no sound at all, but i could be wrong. Please post if you have encountered or solved this problem

I am also having volume issues with my Pioneer DEH-4600 MP head unit. I connected my iPod with the aux/rca cables and can control the volume from my head unit. My problem is that the volume is really low. It gets really annoying when i switch back and forth from radio to iPod and theres a huge volume difference. Is there a way to increase the base volume of all of my mp3's?

I recently fixed the volume problem with my pioneer deh-p5200, the problem was infact that I was connecting to the AMP output. There are two RCA Amp outputs on the back of my unit and I assumed one was for an input. This allowed the sound to be played but gave no control over the volume. What I needed to do was connect to the CD-Changer input which is an IP-BUS connecton. I did this by buying the IP-BUS to RCA adapter made by P.I.E. ($40.00). You could find it on logjamelectronics.com under the adapters for aftermarket radio section. It now works perfectly. hope this helps.

Or, you could buy Pioneer's adapter, the CD-RB10 for $35 msrp...and discounted to about $25 online. Just do a google/froogle search for it.
