Computer wont recognize iPOD

I've got a 2nd Gen, 10 GB ipod and I'm running XP and using xPlay... and recently I had to reset the iPOD while it was connected to the computer and the "Do Not Disconnect" sign was on because the Do Not Disconnect wouldnt go away... Now when I mount it... it doesn't show up as a drive on my computer... Someone please help. Thank you.

Have you tried Forced Firewire mode? Do a reset, then at the Apple logo press the FF and Rew buttons until "OK to Disconnect" shows up, then connect it.

Do a restore when you get it connected to make sure everything's OK.

if I do a restore... won't it delete all my songs?

Yup. But it'll most likely be needed. That's why it's always important to keep a backup of your tunes (i.e. keep a copy on the PC). The iPod as a portable device is very prone to problems like this...
