Hi,
I really recently acquired a new 10gig ipod and I have managed to load it up with music and what not. However, last night when I went to put new songs onto my ipod, the ipod would not mount to any drives on my PC.
This morning I checked it on another computer and it still does not read. Instead of the "do not disconnect" message, I get the "charging" message whenever I connect my Ipod.
I tried resetting the ipod (using the "hold menu button and play button simultaneously for 10 seconds") but it did not correct the problem. The computer still does not detect the Ipod. However the songs that I have on there are still playing fine.
So, I think I need to restore/reformat my Ipod as a last option. But the only problem is, I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Any suggestions or advice?
thanks in advance!

Well, first of all answer this:
What OS are you using, XP, 2000, 98?
What way are you trying to connect it, firewire, USB2.0?
Have you installed the software?
Please answer this before trying to reset or something

Oops, I guess that information would be useful.
I'm running Windows XP, trying to connect through IEEE1394 Firewire card.
I've installed the 2.0.1 installer file but I recently uninstalled Ipod manager because I heard that it actually wasn't necessary to have it. I never installed the programs included with the CD, instead I installed Ephpod.
I'm not sure it's a computer problem though because I've tried my ipod on my computer and a friend's computer and it doesn't get read by either one.

Try putting the iPod into forced firewire mode:
Do a reset, at the Apple logo press the FF and REW buttons until "OK to Disconnect" shows up, then connect it. It should change.
The fact that just the charging indicator shows up is somewhat strange. But see what forced firewire does....

When I did this and re-connected my ipod, it remained on the "OK to Disconnect" screen. I wasn't able to do anything at this point (no button presses would work, no connecting/disconnect would work) except for reset my ipod.
And sorry, I should clarify the charging bit a bit better. If my ipod is on when I connect it to the computer, it stays at whereever it is but the battery starts charging in the little icon up in the corner. If the ipod is off, then the charging message appears when I connect my ipod. I don't get the "do not disconnect" message no matter what I try.
I'm hoping not but it seems like my ipod may be defective. I don't think I can even restore it because my computer doesn't detect it at all...
EDIT: ps, thanks for the suggestion anyways...hopefully you know a couple more tricks I can try....
