Since I just decided to rip my already ripped cds again , only this time at a higher/VBR bitrate, I thought of starting a poll to check what you guys & gals use.

Sorry if I don't listed all possible options but you can always vote "Other" and specify; [i]I think I listed the most common ones. It would be nice if people also mention which front/end they use [MMJB, CDex, EAC, MC, etc] cos that I also find interesting to know; I traded CDex in for EAC since most people swear by this front/end, and I simply couldn't ignore the advise of more experienced iPodloungers.

I presume most people use LAME to encode but if you use another please specify which with motivation.

Your input is appreciated!

I now use EAC [Secure Mode] with LAME3.90.3 with --alt-preset standard ? VBR 192 kbit average.

Well, I use CDEx/LAME on --alt-preset fast standard after looking around the forums here and on hydrogenaudio. I was planning on using just standard, but it was far too slow to rip (about x0.5), so I moved to fast standard instead, and I can't hear any difference, and I get about a x2.0 speed.

I used to use 128kps MusicMatch, and LAME does sound a lot nicer, although I do miss the faster encoding.

By the way, what effect do the private, checksum, original & copyright LAME flags have when you use them with the iPod? (and hopefully, iTunes for Windows at some point)

My mp3 are at 128kbps.
