I had an itrip for my G3 ipod. It was my favorite thing on earth. Now I have a new ipod (ipod photo) and my itrip is almost useless!!!

Unless I HOLD the ipod in one hand it plays nothing but static...LOUDLY! Holding it while driving SUCKS! It works perfectly fine in my hand, but the minute I try to mount it or put it down ANYWHERE it's INSTANT static!

In fact, If I place it down and have one little tiny fraction of my finger on it it will work...the minute I take my finger off---static!

It's SO annoying!!! I've tried about 10 different stations and they all do this! Unless I want one hand on the wheel while I HOLD my ipod, the itrip will play nothing but loud static! What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like some sort of earth problem.

That is why I always suggest getting a direct connect adapter. I have the neo ion in my car - www.ipodcarkits.com has some good info about some of the major kits.

Welcome to the world of FM Transmitters. It will broadcast any type of interference over the airwaves. A cassette adapter will sound better than any FM Transmitter if you have a tape deck. But the best option is a direct connection if your stereo has a CD Changer port.

Sounds like when you grab the iPod, your body is turning into one giant antenna providing a better signal to your FM transmitter.

I have the same problem with my iTrip, but it's already bought some I'm not spending more $$ on another transmitter.
However, I read somewhere (probably in one of these forums) that if you plug in your car charging cord at the same time, it acts like an antenna of sorts and makes the reception much better.
And, darned if it didn't work SOOOOO much better. Give that a try.

my photo gets worse reception than someone else's regular ipod with the same itrip unit in the same car. i think it's something about the power output of the photo.

.

Can anyone confirm that? My iTrip works ...allright, but could be a bit better, and if a power cord will make it a bit better....IŽll get a power cord!!! :D :D

I like the car charger theory/suggestion! I wanted to get a car charger anyway, so I just may try that! For some reason it sounds like it would logically work. Thanks!

If you all want higher quality sound you need to upgrade to a direct connect adapter like the neo ion www.mp3yourcar.com <- I have one in my car and my girlfriend liked mine so much she got one for hers lol.

i purchased a itrip today from radioshack. i wanted to test it out before buying a cheaper one online. the itrip does look nice, but the sound quality didnt sound to good. i agree with the first GCTB. there was just too much static, even when i turned the volume all the way down. i've tried all the open channels and there all the same. i'm going to return the itrip tomorrow and order myself the griffin smartdeck.
