I have a brand new green 6G mini.
Not being an accessory kind of guy, I hadn't even thought about a skin or a case. I love the way it looks without a skin, but now I'm worried about protecting it cause I can be rough on things. But if I get a skin to cover over the color, aren't I just hiding the beautiful finish on this well-made device?
Thoughts?

I've been thinking about this exact topic as well.
Thing is, I protect mine because I don't want it to get banged up and scratched up. But more importantly, I don't want the constant use and touch to slowly eat away at the plastic.
Just think about your remote control for your TV. Think about what the oils and sweat from your skin do to it over time.
On the flip side.... there are a lot of really nice skins and cases to buy. I'm sure you can find something that looks stylish as well as fits your personality.
Besides, it's what's inside that counts. Protect your investment so that you can have years of good listening.

Any recommendations on good skin products. iSkin looks good but pricey.
Also, any chance that a skin can cause an iPod to overheat?

I really doubt that. It's highly unlikely. Maybe if you lived Mexico, left your car in the sun all day long and left the iPod in it. Maybe. Even then, the skin would not have much effect. See this thread for a good story of iPod torture:

Yeah, the skins might be a tad pricey, depending on who you are. iSkin is popular, yes. But shop around. Check the thinkdifferent store. Maybe even check ebay. Also, download the ipodlounge buyer's guide for good reviews and suggestions.
Just shop around and remember it's about protection of your investment. You'll be happy you did.

The contour and Agent 18 seem to be the most popular, I think?
I have the clear DLO Jam Jacket Mini, and its served me well so far. I have a Blue 4G, and you can still see the color under the skin. The only think I hate about it is the screen protector, it attracts ANY kind of fuzz. So if you keep your iPod in your pocket it'll look kind of gross when you take it out. I usually just clean it with a cotton swap dipped in water. Its about 20$ from BestBuy, a pretty good deal considering what its protecting...

I have the isee mini...its an excellent case for showing of ur flashy anodized aluminum, and it also protects well against scratches and that thing. I also like that its not too fat and doesn't add a significant amount to the ipods dimensions. I'd recommend it for you, especially since you want protection and good looks at the same time. I have to show off my discontinued golden mini =D

I bought an iskin mini for when I take my ipod out of the house.
Yes, it does cover up the beautiful anodized aluminum case but when I'm out it's usually in my pocket or sitting in my center console hooked up to the car stereo. So, I don't see it anyway.
I picked the iskin because it will protect the mini from scratches and give it a bit of drop protection. I did find the price a bit expensive but it did include the screen protector.
