OK. here goes...I hope whoever reds this understands what I'm talking about.

I have lots of duplicate songs from Greatest Hits packages, Box Sets, compliations, etc...
Now there's no real reason to leave these songs on my hard drives, they just take up space. But at the same time, I'd like "albums" to be/look complete. Is there a way of creating an alias to a song, even though it's on another release?

Here's an example:

Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar" appears on STICKY FINGERS, HOT ROCKS, MADE IN THE SHADE, & 40 LICKS.

I'd like it to show up when I sort by ALBUM in each of those releases with the correct track number of the subsequent release but really only be on my hard drive once. Now I could just add the extra album titles in the COMMENTS field, but: A - it would not shop up when I scan by album and B - I like using the comments field for other things.

If anyone understands and can help me. I'd greatly appreciate it cuz i've been wracking my brain over this! :)

thanx...

I think I understand. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible. I too have multiple copies of songs like you do and I like to have complete albums too. I keep multiple files of the same song on my HD due to the compilations etc. What I do is uncheck the duplicate songs except for one. Don't know if this helps.

There isn't a way to do this in iTunes, though I wish there were. The closest you'll get is making playlists.
