ipod battery drains after plugging into computer

After I update my ipod through my PC the battery is totally drained after the process. It has enough battery for me to turn on, see the empty battery sign, then be given the "not enough battery power remains, please plug into charger"

Is this normal, and can I get this fixed through apple?
