THis error drives me nuts!

EVER time I set the ipod in it's craddle and/or open itunes WITH the ipod in its craddle I get this error dialog box -
Dialog box titles [iTunes: iTunes.exe - No Disk]

Then a line that says: THere is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk6\DR11

Thank I have 3 options.
Cancel
Try Again
Continue

Of which if I hit continue, nothing happens the first time, then I hit it again and it goes away and the ipod connects fine and updates.

Although!!! I DO NOT WANT IT to AUTO update! I go to settings and set it to MANUAL update and click OK. Then it auto matically start updating everything. I DO NOT want this!

I want to simply be able to connnect my ipod, and use it, update it when I want with WHAT I want...

WHY is this such a pain???

Do a restore on the iPod using the updater and do a repair of iTunes (download from apple & after the install wizard select the repair option) or

go to the control panel>add/remove programs>iTunes>click the change/remove button & after the install wizard finishes the set up select 'repair'.
