So, Ive been checking out as much blues as I can latley. Its my new thing. I absoloutley love the song "Baby Please Dont Go" by Muddy Waters. I'm lookin for some of the more upbeat artists which sound like this song? I'm open to anything really though if you want to just name some of your favorites.

John Lee Hooker. One of my all time favorites, and chances are you've heard many of his songs before even if you don't realize it right away. Crawlin' King Snake, Boom Boom and Boogie Chilun' are 3 prime examples.

IMHO he has one of the greatest voices in all of the blues genre.

Also worth checking out are:
Albert King
Lightnin' Hopkins
Howlin' Wolf
Son House
Koko Taylor

Three Kings (BB., Albert, and don't forget Freddie)
Two Walters (Little Walter and Big Walter Horton)
Both Sonnyboy Williamsons

My favorite recommendation for new blues listeners is a band out of LA called the Red Devils. They only released one album, a 1992 live album titled "King King" and it absolutely SMOKES. Similar to Little Charlie and the Nightcats, but less "jump". From what I've heard, one of the band members died shortly after the album was recorded and the band broke up (don't know if that's true, though).

And listen to as much Stevie Ray Vaughan as you can.

"Wolf's unique sound was fully in evidence from his first recording session for Sam Phillips. Nobody before or since has sung the blues quite like the Wolf. Supported by the molten guitar of Willie Johnson and the crudely powerful drumming of Willie Steel, Wolf growled, moaned, howled, and blew harp through one dynamic recording after another. This is music for scaring the living and waking the dead." -from the excellent biography "Moanin' at Midnight" by Mark Segrest and Mark Hoffman, Discography, West Memphis and Memphis recordings. Recommended are Memphis Days: Definitive Edition, vols. 1 and 2 (Bear Family 15460 and 15500).

Chicago recordings: The Chess Box (MCA/Chess 9332) Three disc set "provides the best overview of Wolf's entire recording career for Chess".

If you want more, Howlin' Wolf/Moanin' at Midnight (MCA/Chess 5908) and The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions [Deluxe Edition] (MCA/Chess 112985) are excellent choices.

Sam Phillips- " A disc jockey from West Memphis told me about Chester Burnett's show on KWEM and I tuned him in. When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies.'"

"I tell you, the greatest thing you could see to this day would be Chester Burnett doing one of those sessions in my studio. God, what it would be worth to see the fervor in that man's face when he sang. He cut everything out of his mind and sang with his damn soul. I mean, his eyes would light up and you'd see the veins come out on the back of his neck. Awwww.... how different, how good! I would love to have recorded that man until the day he died. I never would have given up on him"

The Fumes - especially if you like The Black Keys
Aerosmith - Honkin' On Bobo album
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band
Chris Rea - Dancing Down the Stoney Road
