I have tried to search the forums and didn't seem to find the answer that I need. I lost both HD's on my desktop.:o Thus I lost my library for my IPod. All songs are still on the IPod. I need to reinstall ITunes, but i don't want to lose all the songs on the IPod. It took quite some time to put the 16gig of music on my 40gig IPod. How do I do this with out losing the music on the IPod? I have not connected yet out of fear of losing everthing.

Help Please.

When you initially install the iPod software, it will ask you if you want to either restore or autosync (I can't remember which) your iPod. Say no. Then you need to make sure that autosync is turned off when you connect your iPod to iTunes for the first time, or you're fooked.

As for transferring your music back, there are threads that describe how to do it. I have no idea how to do it myself because I've never had both HDs fail...

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll now install ITunes. I will try to figure out how to get the library back on my PC. Actually, my HD's didn't fail, I melted a few chips on the circuit boards of each when i reconnected my floppy's power connector. Bent a pin, and the HD's were inline. When i powered up, the smell of melting insulation was sickening. Dooh. At least I didn't do any more damage than that.

I know how you feel. I melted a CPU and a motherboard because I forgot to apply heat transfer paste to my cpu after removing my heat sink fan. And then I almost shorted out the new mobo after forgetting to remove some board mounts that weren't in the right spot.

That was a bad two weeks.
