Not unreasonably, my music files are not saved in the default Windows 'My Music' folder because I have a dedicated music hard disk (my F: drive). iTunes is perfectly happy to look at the music folder on this separate hard disk, but for some reason when it was installed it created its 'iTunes' folder in a very bizzarre folder buried deep within 'My Documents' which I can only assume it chose because it refers to 'Music'. Very annoying, but it worked.

However, today I finally decided to move this folder to a more sensible location so I copied the 'iTunes' folder to the root of F:. I fired up iTunes again and panicked slightly when I saw that there were no songs displayed. I relaxed, though, after I used the File>Import function to re-import the iTunes .xml file from its new location and all my songs reappeared. Job done, I thought.

Not quite. Unfortunately, my history has been completely lost so that all of my play counts are back to 0, my 'Most Recently Played' is empty and, worse still, all of my playlists, although they still appear in the 'Source' pane on the left, are empty.

I've tried everything to remedy this, including copying the .xml file back to its original location and reimporting it. In doing so, I discovered that iTunes had impolitely recreated that folder in the same stupid location it had been in before and started using a new .xml file. No amount of copying and importing will bring my history back. I hate the way iTunes creates new folders wherever it likes!!

Bottom line: I've lost my history and playlists and iTunes is still using an iTunes folder in a ridiculous location. Thanks iTunes.

Any comments/suggestions welcome. I've dismissed trying to recover the lost info from my iPod because it's already updated....
