Well, I have a 3g Ipod, 40gb. I have a Compaq R3240 US laptop, its relatively new, A64 3200+ 512mb RAM so it shouldn't have any problems. Well, I also have an Apple iBook 900 mhz with 640mb RAM. Anyway, my iPod will mount and charge from the firewire port on the Apple, but when i plug it into the Aompaq, it will show up in Itunes and do everything it is supposed to do, accept charge, just curious as to why, because i do have a lot of songs on both computers but if i do a large transfer, it may run out of battery before its finished, like 3500 songs, so any ideas.

How are you connecting to the PC? If you're using USB, then it's normal behavior, as the 3G iPods cannot charge over USB. If you're connecting via FireWire, then perhaps your PC's FireWire port doesn't supply the power.

Well, I just thought it was kinda weird that it recognizes the iPod, and I can manage the music through iTunes and everything, but it doesnt charge. is there anyway that I can know for sure if it doesnt send power, because if it supposed to, i still have the 3 year BB warranty and i'll get it fixed. thanks for you reply
