iPod won't mount

My friend recently purchased the newest mini, however, i can not get it to mount on her PC. When I plug it in via USB, the battery charges but neither iTunes or the computer recognize that any thing has been plugged in. I've reset the iPod multiple times, and I've updated iTunes and the related software on my computer. I downloaded the newest iPod updater, but since the computer doesn't realize the iPod is attached, it does me no good. The computer is running XP Home and iTunes 4.7.1

What USB port do you have? i would imagine it would be a 2.0 er, i would suggest trying a firewire, though it is odd that it wont reconise your iPod is in, yet it is charging...

The port is 2.0. Unfortunately the computer doesn't have a firewire port. I am going to try hooking it up to a couple of different machines tonight and see what happens. Any additional trouble shooting tips are welcome
