10 gig iPod, still under applecare for a few more months and loaded with songs. It comes with a marware convertible case ($40 value!)
You can see pictures at http://homepage.mac.com/aez/nswelton/ipodpix/index.htm
It's lived in the case its whole life and it's in good condition. As was the case with this generation iPods, the metal and plastic parts were easily scuffed, so the sligth scuffs on the top are actually because of the Marware. No big deal anyway. Just trying to be honest: it does't look brand new, but it's in awesome shape and i've taken good care of it. You can see what I'm talking about if you look at the pictures.
it comes with ipod, firewire cable, power adapter, headphones, and case.
$200, i'll pay for shipping. i am selling because i got a new 20gig one. it's in santa barbara

Sweet! I always thought that the Gen 1 10 GB iPod with the moving scrollwheel was the absolute best iPod of all.
I wouldn't sell mine for $200, though with refurb prices as they are, maybe it's a tad expensive.....
Nevertheless, if you wanted to drop the price a fraction and inlude shipping to the UK I'd be VERY tempted to buy it as a spare.
However, I'm sure you'll find someone out there in the USA who'll snap your hand off for a pod which will mark them out as a member of the Poderati!
Good luck

Is it the scroll wheel one?
They were selling 2nd generation touch pad ones on Apple Special Deals refurbished with a one year warranty for $169.
So I will take that down to about $130? Since there is hardly a warranty left (definately not a year) and it's used/scratched (which is expected, I know.)
PM me or reply here if interested I have the cash now.

Tony, some would say that the scroll pod is worth more. It's rarer, less skip prone, and has the advantage of being the same size as the 5, so cases are easier.
I reckon that $169 would be a very fair price for this Pod.... $135 is a pi$$ take!

Well why buy something for the same price as a newer one that comes with a year warranty and has been inspected by Apple. (I had the price set at $150 shipped up there, which I will still do maybe..but I like the touchpad iPods more I think.)

Really? Different strokes, as they say. I think that the loss of the moving wheel was a real loss.
Not my place to set prices, just commenting. And the 10 GB scrollpods are as rare as rocking horse manure.....

Never having actually used an iPod, I wouldn't know. ;) I am just going off the prices I see on Apple.com right now.
I've heard touchpads are better than scroll wheels now...so I dunno. Just looking to get a cheap used iPod that has 10 or more GB for less than $200 if I could.
And the rocking horse thing...LoL

If you're interested there was loads on scroll vs touch on the old forums.
Each had their adherents. I think that it's pretty well accepted that the change was made to give increased space inside the pod, allowing them to reduce the depth of the 10 GB pod and to make a 20 GB pod with double platter without making it unacceptably fat.
The change also saved Apple loads of money - because assembling a pod with a sealed unit trackpad was much easier and quicker than assembling one with a mechanical wheel with bearings and lots of parts.
The mechanical wheel was simple and robust, and could be disassembled by even an average user for cleaning or re-greasing, and was no less reliable than the sealed unit. It also worked much better if you had wet or greasy fingers, was not susceptible to electrical interference and allowed finer control if you were playing the brick/bat game.
But some users did prefer the touchwheel.
Because the Gen 2 had a relatively short production life, and since the 10 GB Gen 2 could go into any case designed for the 5 (although loosely, because they were smaller) relatively few cases were made for them, whereas the Gen 1 10 GB pod will fit any 5 GB pod case snugly. Believe me, this really does make life easier.
It's also nice to use a Pod which is the original 'classic' - dating from before Apple started making compromises to make production cheaper or easier.

wow. lots of responses.
i've been using my new 20 gig one and i gotta say, i actually like the old one a hell of a lot better, if it it does have half the storage.
maybe i'll just sell the new one and keep my old one!
to begin with, you don't need that stupid adapter cable to plug the old one in -- you can just use any old firewire cable laying around, which is bonus #1.
bonus #2 is that the old one has buttons instead of those silly touch buttons. i don't like the touch buttons yet because if you merely run your finger over them, the unit will either a) pause, b) skip to the next song, c) go back to the beginning of the song or d) go back a notch in the menu system. with the 1st generation, you actually have to PUSH them in to do something. that's nice.
anyway, as far as getting a 10 gig for $169 -- good luck. the apple store is sold out. i wonder why...
