I'm trying to decide on a pair of sealed headphones, and I've boiled it down to the Sennheiser 280 Pro and the Sony V600. If anyone has any thoughts, comments or info it would be much appreciated.

I believe the Sony MDR-V6 is considered to be far superior to the Sony MDR-V600, and can probably be found for less. If you want any type of portablitly take a look at the Sony D66 Eggo's for about the same price.

Here's my overview of the D66's:

I think that most knowledgeable people would put the sound quality like this: Sennheiser HD 280 Pro > Sony V6 > Sony D66 > Sony V600

The main draw to the D66's would be, they are very light, extremely comfortable, and very small, while still providing good sound. You can probably get better sound from the other two at the expense of portability.

Also check out the Beyerdynamic DT 231

seriously, heres a rule of thumb.sennheisers always beat sonys for sound quality, endurance but maybe not price.avoid sony, panasonic and all the other 'parttime' earphone manufacturers like the plague.

I dont think that the Sony V600's are closed phones although they do provide good isolation

If you still think that these might be of interest then check out the Senns 25-1, they are regarded as the best portable cans that you can buy, they are easily driven have good isolation and sound quality.

You can find them on ebay for cheap circa £30 because they have been lifted from the now defunct Concorde I believe.

Another option might be the Audio Technica ATH FC7's

check out headfi.org for more information

I hope that this helps

Good luck

Thanks guys, all your info has been helpful. The V600 is out, the 280 Pro on top. But now I'm interested in the Audio Technica ATH FC7s (thanks Will). The eggos didn't exactly jump out at me, and I'd take sound quality over portability. Unless someone else has more input, I think the Sennheiser 280 Pro is the winner.

Also, I would like to add that I'm on a bit of a budget. Roughly $150 US is where I draw the line (because I still need to convert that into Canadian :P). That's why the 280s are looking so good at under $100
